La Roche-Posay is one of those brands that I always recommend for sensitive skin. They seem to make fairly basic products that don't interrupt your natural skin barrier and help to protect it. I believe their Prebiotic Moisturizer is one of the newest products. If you're a skin care junkie, you must have heard about probiotics and prebiotics in skin care. They are definitely something to look for, if you have dry and sensitive skin.
Packaging
La Roche-Posay products have a clean minimalistic white and blue design. Moisturizer comes in a hygienic and user friendly squeeze tube. Opening is small enough, so you don't waste any product.
In the tube is 40 ml of product and it costs around 15€. In Slovenia you can get La Roche-Posay products in most of pharmacies.
Formula
This is daily moisturizer with an innovative prebiotic formula for a double repair of the physical and microbial skin barrier. It provides 48 hours of soothing hydration that comforts skin and reduces sensitivity over time. It's formulated for sensitive skin with a gliding formula to reduce friction upon application.
It has 83% of soothing and protective actives and 17% of complimentary ingredients to guarantee comfortable application and preserve the quality of the formula.
Active ingredients in it are:
- glycerin - hydrates for 48 hours
- ceramide - repairs and protects skin barrier
- vitamin B3 - intensely soothes
- La Roce-Posay Thermal Water - calms and reduces skin irritation
The role of prebiotics in this is to preserve skin's microbial barrier, which is the invisible barrier that naturally protects the skin. By doing so it reduces skin's sensitivity.
Moisturizer is also non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, alcohol-free, paraben-free and fragrance-free.
I have researched a bit about probiotics and prebiotics. Basically, prebiotics are food for our good bacteria strains, while probiotics are actually live bacteria. Prebiotics serve as an energy source for probiotics, because most probiotics are fragile and unstable ingredients. Prebiotics help by fueling probiotics to be at their best.
Both are clinically proven to calm and sooth irritated skin, while maintaining the health of our bacteria to prevent the colonisation of bad bacteria to ward off infections.
I love that this moisturizer contains many good ingredients for hydration and calming irritation. Ingredients like glycerin, niacinamide and ceramide. Silicon - dimethicone is on the third place, so if you have problems with silicons, that's good to know. I like the smooth feeling that it gives to the application.
It's a lightweight white colored cream that feels almost a bit gel like. It has very smooth formula that applies with such ease and no tugging. It blends out into nothing. At first it leaves behind a slight protective nourishing layer which is very lightweight, but feels like a good barrier. In time it all soaks in and there is no greasy or heavy feel on the skin.
There is absolutely no scent to it, which a love. Perfumes are so unnecessary in skin care and huge irritants for sensitive skin.
Performance
I have almost used it up already, so this has been tested well. It has worked great on my combination sensitive skin. This feels like a very hydrating and nourishing product, but in a very sophisticated smooth and lightweight formula. I haven't had any irritations with it on my skin, but my skin is in good condition now. I like that it doesn't really feel like nothing on the skin, so it's great as a base for makeup and it doesn't make my skin too shiny through the day.
I'd say it's appropriate for dry, normal and sensitive skin. I was most satisfied with the fact that this had no scent. I think it's a great option for those of you that can't handle scented skin care. When I felt sick, this was the only thing that I applied on my skin, because it was one of the rare skin care products in my collections that didn't make me want to throw up.
In the package I also received this cute soft pillow looking cosmetics bag. I'm a bit scared to use it, because it's so snow white, but it's washable, so all is good.
I loved this moisturizer. It provided enough hydration and nourishing layer on the skin, but a very lightweight non-greasy feeling. You can definitely use this as a makeup base, because of the silicon in it. The fact that is has no scent is amazing. My skin didn't feel irritated or sensitive while I was using it. I almost prefer it as a day moisturizer, because of its lightweight feel. In the evening I tend to use something heavier.
