Unicorn Pumpkin DIY

I haven't done a DIY project in forever. Since this year is flooded with unicorns, I decided to make a cute pumpkin unicorn decor for fall. I've seen this on Pinterest and YouTube and it's by no means my idea. This is just my version with the things that I could gather together and I think it looks really cute. You can make it for fall in general, not just for Halloween. 


For this you'll need:
pumpkin
white, gold and red acrylic paint
brush
sponge
modeling clay
wooden skewer
white and pink felt
hot glue gun
fake plastic flowers
old fake eyelashes


I started by painting my green pumpkin to a white color. First I applied most of my white acrylic color with a brush and then I used sponge to make it look more textured and evenly blended. You can do it just with the brush, if you don't have a sponge, but I like this textured look. I pained two coats to cover it all.



For unicorn horn I used white modeling clay and made two cone shapes. Then I swirled them together to make a unicorn horn shape. I let it dry for a while, but you can also bake it, if the clay is for baking. Before you leave it to dry, also take a wooden skewer and put it on that. This will make it easier for you to stick it in the pumpkin later. Then I applied gold metallic acrylic color over it. For this I used a brush only. 



I cut out two bigger ears in a nude color and two smaller ears, for the inside part of the ear, from pink colored felt. Then I hot glued them together. You can also pinch them together at the bottom and use hot glue gun to stick together and make it look more 3D. 


I bough one stem of plastic fake flowers in a darker purple shade. The flowers are made in a way that you can actually just pull them off. I decided to also add the leaves and small green accents, so I cut these off to. You can use whatever you have at home - butterflies, flowers, leaves...maybe even real flowers. 


Once everything is dried and colored you can start to assemble it together. I started by pushing that horn we made on the center upper pumpkin part. Then I hot glued fake flowers on the top of the pumpkin to make a flower crown in a way. I also used green leaves as a base and those green accents here and there. I also hot glued on the ears. After that I took some old and used fake eyelashes and also glued these on in a downward position to make it seem like the unicorn is looking down with closed eyes. I took a bit of that white acrylic paint and mixed it with another red color to make a soft pink hue. With that color I took small piece of sponge and stippled it on to make it seem like the unicorn is blushing. It's super cute and easy to make.






I really like how it turned out. It looks like a shy baby unicorn. It's a fun project to do, if you have some time on your hands and would like to get into that fall feel. I'm sure your guests will love seeing it at the front door. It's also a less creepy version for those that prefer prettier things.

DIY Choker Necklace

I'm sure you've already seen choker necklaces all over the internet, if not in real life. As with brown lipsticks, these are also somewhat of a 90's comeback trend. Who still has that elastic plastic wired one? I do. Ah.. the good old times. Since my budget doesn't allow me to buy Kim-Kardashian-covered-in-diamonds choker, I'll just show you a few affordable options that you can easily make at home. I haven't seen these in our stores yet (always late to the party), so I decided to just make them myself.


On the photo below is the one that inspired me to do this post. I bought it on Ebay and immediately liked it. It's one of those tie in a bow longer chokers. 


Things you'll need:
-scissors
-sewing thread
-sewing needle
-leather strip
-gift wrapping ribbon
-sewing meter
-velcro
-jewelry beads
-clasp
-jewelry ring
-stud
-chain-nose pliers
-wire cutters
-gold chain



With every step you'll need to measure how long you'd like the choker to be. I suggest that you put sewing meter over your neck and measure it. You also need to have in mind if you'll be adding any rings, clasps and such, because this will mean you're necklace base needs to be shorter.


Romantic Bow

After you've measure the length that you want, you'll add one small jewelry bead on each end of this leather strip. I tied the knot at the end to secure them and prevent them from falling down.


And that is the finished result for this choker. All you have to do then is just tie it around your neck and make a bow. This one is very similar to the one that I bought on Ebay. I choose the string that I already had at home and since it is pink, it looks more romantic and girly. 



Gold Chain Choker

You can also make chokers that look like regular chain necklaces, but are shorter and come tighter around the neck. This one I started by cutting the chain in my desired length. On one side I added this jewelry ring. On the other side of the chain I also added one ring and I attached clasp at the end of it. Keep in mind that your chain needs to be a bit longer to hang off of the stud.


I decided to use a regular clothing stud and put wire on the spikes that are usually used to secure on the clothes. As you can see I hung the chain on left and right spike and then I used my chain-nose pliers to bend down both spikes and secure the chain in place. 


This gave my chain choker a small hang down underneath the stud. I think it adds just a bit of something else and doesn't look as boring.



Simple Black Choker

As with all the previous chokers you'll also need to measure out your gift wrapping ribbon. Before measuring I would also cut your velcro to fit ribbon width. Then you hold velcro and ribbon in both hands and measure it around your neck. You'll need the ribbon to overlap at the back, because you need both ends of velcro to stick together. 


Since the edges of ribbon were not pretty looking, I decided to put some fire next to them to make the edges straight. Then I hand sew velcros on the ribbon. Obviously you can do this step with a sewing machine. if you have it. My velcros were hard and therefore the sewing was a bit harder too.


Don't forget that you need to sew different sizes of velcors on each end so that they'll be able to stick together.


That is all you need. You have yourself the most basic black ribbon choker. I wouldn't wear this with a ponytail, because obviously my stitches aren't aesthetically pleasing, but it looks absolutely fine from the front.


These are my three types of chokers that I decided to make. I just used what I already had at home from previous DIY projects and created something new. It's a great way of using up any leftover jewelry pieces and it keeps you busy on a rainy Sunday.

You can also stack these chokers. I personally also like stacking them with regular necklaces. It creates a more dimensional statement look.


My favorite has to be the simplest black ribbon choker, which I wear a lot. It just adds a bit of something to a very boring outfit. I also love to pair it with the gold chain choker, which is a statement on its own and can easily pass as a regular necklace. Pink bow I would probably wear with something like a doll dress. It's a bit too romantic and girly for my taste. I think I'll need to make it in a darker shade and add some edge to it.

DIY BB Cushion

Hey Beauties!

I've already talked a bit about my current obsession with Asian cosmetics. I think they are the masters of skin care as well as makeup and for some reason I am very intrigued by their brands. BB cushions were first to appear on Asian market and they're in general known for very advanced technologies and innovations. I think BB cushions are one of the easiest to use products. If you're a rookie at makeup, you'll love it. But because very little European brands do these, I'll show you how to make your own version. 


Things you'll need for this DIY are:
  • Foundation
  • Liquid highlighter (optional)
  • Sunscreen (optional)
  • Moisturizer
  • Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Empty BB cushion case
  • Alcohol
  • Printable sticker paper (optional)
  • Decorative transparent foil (optional)


If you don't have any empty BB cushion case, you can buy it from sites like Ebay. They sell some empty cases of other BB cushion brands and I think there are even some DIY empty cases for the purposes that we're doing today. It's also a nice way to recycle your old, but used up cases. No need to throw it away. Plus you'll be making your own BB for a fraction of the price. 


I cleaned out the whole case and at the end I sprayed and cleaned it with some alcohol. I have this Brush Cleaner spray bottle filled with alcohol. You can read how I made it here. This will kill all leftover bacteria. I obviously also cleaned my puff and the actual sponge cushion with soap and let them air dry. 


You'll need some sort of bowl to mix your BB in. I used glass bowl, because it's the easiest to clean. Spatula is to help you mix it all together without touching it and putting in additional bacteria from your fingers. 


After that you take your favorite moisturizer or multiple moisturizers and you add them in. Then you'll add foundation. I also added white foundation to make it lighter, because most of my foundations are a bit too dark for my current skin tone. I also added a bit of liquid highlighter for some luminosity (you don't need to do this, if you don't want it to be dewy). You can also add sunscreen, but since my moisturizers have SPF in them, I didn't add any additional sunscreen. I might add this in in the summer, when I'll need some more protection. 

The ratio of these depends on what kind of BB you'd like to have. If you want it to be high coverage and more on the matte side use small amount of matte or lightweight moisturizer and add more foundation. You'll get higher coverage. If you're looking for something moisturizing and lighter coverage add more of the moisturizer. You can also add liquid highlighter to add additional dewiness. It's all up to you. 

I personally mixed it so that I got lighter medium coverage with some dewiness from my very moisturizing and glowy face cream and a touch of liquid highlighter. 


When you mix it all up, try it. If you don't like it, add more of what you think it needs.



When you're satisfied with your mixture pour it in the case. Make sure to fill it about two thirds. If you fill it up too much you'll get spillage from sides of the sponge. 


Whatever is left in the bowl scrape it out with the cushion that's in the case. No need to waste product. Then you slowly press the sponge into the case and it's ready to be used.


You'll need to press puff onto the cushion to saturate it and transfer the BB to it. Then you just apply it on your face. It's all so easy and fool proof. You just dab it in the cushion and onto the face. So easy. It blends on itself and no need for brushes or mixing up the right shade or using moisturizer before. 


This is optional step, but if you'd like to make it more personal, you can print out sticker to put on top of the case. I made this hearts leopard print design and wrote my blog's name in the middle. I printed it on a sticker paper (you can get these in most stationary stores) and then I applied transparent foil over it (the one that we used to use in school to wrap text books in). This will protect your sticker from water and other dirt. Your print will stay intact and you'll have your very own BB cushion.



Isn't this the cutest thing ever? Ever since I tried BB cushion, I thought of doing my own version with my favorite foundations. It's so practical to carry around and use for touch ups. It's also the easiest way of applying your base and the puff that comes with it does all the work for you. It blends beautifully. It also means that you have one product to put on in the morning instead of three - moisturizer, foundation and SPF. 

Obviously this is by no means my idea. I've seen it in multiple videos and blogs, but I just wanted to share this idea with you and my version of it to inspire you and shorten your morning makeup routine.



I've also added a bit of demonstration. On the left side is my skin without BB and on the right side is my skin with the BB. On the bottom photo is how it looks like with my complete makeup look.
