Review: Colourpop Super Shock Shadow - Birthday Girl and DGAF

I've mentioned before that I love the formula of Colourpop Super Shock Shadows. They have such a creamy and pigmented formula, it's a joy to apply as well as wear. A few months ago I finally decided to order some more of Colourpop products and I got two more shades, this time, a bit more wearable nude shades. I got Birthday Girl and DGAF, but I also repurchased another backup of Game Face, because I love this shade so much and mine is already on its last leg.

Packaging

I think Colourpop changed their packaging or it might have just been a holiday packaging I got, but they came in these cute pastel colored paper boxes. Two were in pastel blue with stars and one came in pastel lavender with lashes design.

Super Shock Shadows have a white plastic pot packaging with a transparent lid. It makes it easier for you to spot the right shade faster. Names of the shades are on the bottom of the pot.

All of these also have fun embossed design, which obviously disappears, as soon as you dig into it with your fingers.

In each is 2.1 grams of product and the regular price is 5$, but I got them on sale and they were a bit cheaper.

Formula

Formula of these is unique. They look like a whipped mousse, feel creamy under the fingers, but once they are on the lid, they act like a powder eyeshadow. Initially it's a cream product with great smooth base and movement, but it wears like a powder shadow. You can spread it out with ease and they blend out surprisingly well for something so creamy.

Pigmentation is good, but you can build it up or tone it down. Especially with shimmery shades, you can apply them very light to almost just look shimmery without the colorful base. But if you apply them heavily, you get great pigmentation. The more you layer it, the more metallic they look and more intense in color.

Performance

These wear on the lid for the whole day and once they set down, they don't move at all, so they are long lasting. I never have problems with creasing, but if you have oily lids, I definitely advise you to apply eyeshadow primer underneath. I almost always do that with all my eyeshadows.

Be aware that the creamy formula can dry out, so you have to close the lid really well in order to prevent it drying up. I've had some for one year and they still have movement to them, they're just not as creamy as they were in the beginning.

I prefer to apply these shadows with a finger, because that way you get the most pigmentation. You can also apply it with a synthetic flat lid brush. I find that those flat lid brushes pick up color well and allow you to press it on the lid. I also use fluffy blending brush to just blend out the edges. But in general fingers give you most color payoff

Colors

Colourpop has a huge selection of shades. They have a lot of nudes, some shimmery metallic shades as well as some crazy pops of color. They also have different finishes - satin, shimmery, metallic, matte and much more.

Birthday Girl

They describe Birthday Girl as light gold with silver and pink glitter. I actually think this is more of a cool beige base with slight gold warmth to it and silver, gold and pink glitter

Finish is described as ultra-glitter and it definitely is very glittery. The glitters have different colors, but they mostly look cool silver toned on the lid.

I think this is the perfect neutral base, if you want something very glittery, but close to a light skin tone without too much color. It's also great to layer over other shades to just add that glittery element to ti. I wanted to do a full on swatch next to a very light swatch that mostly just picks up glitter, to let you know that these shadows are versatile and can be applied in many different ways

DGAF

Colourpop describes DGAF as medium-toned rusty brown topped with multi-dimensional gold glitter. I think this is a very warm red toned brown with lots of warm gold glitter

Finish is again ultra-glitter and it definitely has a lot of glitter particles in it. However the glitter here is not as shiny as in Birthday Girl. Maybe because it's more yellow gold toned and it doesn't pop as much on my skin tone.

This is warm toned lovers dream. It's very warm, but still fairly neutral in that brown tone and has a lot of warm glitter on top. I would use this all over the lid on its own for that pop of shimmery goodness.

As with Birthday Girl, you can apply this very lightly and mostly just pick up that gold glitter. So it's also a great shimmery topper on top of other shadows.

Game Face is ultra-metallic rich copper and it definitely is that perfect copper shade with metallic finish. Actually they describe the finish as ultra-metallic. This is a repurchase, because I've already purchased it once and I still have some of it left, so I didn't swatch new one.

You can read a review of it here

I also have some other shades that I've already reviewed:

Empty Palette Large

I decided to also get one of their empty palettes in a large size which can hold 24 Colourpop Pressed Powder Shadows. Their shadows are a bit smaller than most of my other single pans that I store in here. I have some Colourpop, Nabla, Morphe and Freedom Makeup singles.

Palette has light silver color with writing It Was All A Dream and is that hard cardboard packaging. The bottom is magnetic, so you can store any single pans with metal bottom in it. It has magnetic closing and seems well made.

The palette costs 10$.

I love creamy formula that acts like a powder once it's on the lid. Colourpop has a huge selection of shades as well as finishes, so there's something for everyone. Birthday Girl is that perfect nude for my light skin tone, but with a good amount of glitter to it to make it less boring. I also use it as a topper on top of other shades. DGAF is that perfect very warm reddish brown that looks mysterious on the eyes, but also has a ton of gold glitter for that glam look. I use ti all over the lid on its own or sometimes pair it with a matte brown shade in the crease to not look too glittery. Game Face is a repurchase, so it's obvious I love it. It's perfect warm copper metallic shade.

These also wear all day without creasing and have good pigmentation. If you like eyeshadows, I definitely advise you to try at least one of the shades form the Super Shock Shadows range, because it's so easy to apply and gives you an instant color.

I can also recommend their empty palette, because it's well made, closes nicely and can store a good amount of singles in it. It's great for those single pans that you don't know where to put.

No lepo, da so ti všeč. Ti imaš mat koliko vem. Naslednjo si nabavi neko metalik ali pa shimmery, te se verjetno še lepše nanašajo. Izbira je res ogromna :D. Jaz se tudi nisem mogla na začetku odločit. Ampak sem si prave kupila take unikatne odtenke in take, ki vem, da jih bom res veliko nosila. DGAF bi ti verjetno super pasala. Je tudi dovolj temna za tvojo polt :).

    1. Ja swatche moraš kar googlat. Jaz sem sicer za večino našla swatche. Ultra-glitter so najbolj bleščičasti. Metalik so itak metalik. :)
