Review: Bourjois Twist Up The Volume mascara

 Hey Beauties!

So..my beloved L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes has become a bit old and I thought I need to get me a new mascara. Since I was bombarded with Bourjois Twist Up The Volume advertisement, I thought I'd give it a try. I loved Bourjois Max Volume mascara and I loved that one as much as L'Oreal, so I had certain hopes for this mascara.

I got it in a non waterproof version, because I don't think I need waterproof mascaras, since they don't tend to smudge a lot. I also hate cleaning waterproof formulas, since my eyes get all tired and just abused. It's in color 21 Black and I didn't see any other colors available.

The packaging is plastic and it has this shape of a long gown? Sort of :) It's black with white details. The top twists and changes between different wands. Now, at first I was sure that there were two wands in the mascara... I think Bourjois already had mascara that also had two or three wands, depending on how much volume you wanted. I didn't have that one, but I believe it had different wands in one?! Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways, I though there would be two-wrong. It's one wand and when you twist the top, that same wand shrinks and the hairs on wand twist in a circular direction, which means the hairs are closer together. That gives a bigger volume, since it gets better between all the lashes. If you twist back, the hairs become sparser and spread in a straight line. The wand also becomes shorter when it twists.

I like the volume side better (2), because I think it coats each lash and it gives more volume. The length side (1) seems to make them long, but also clumpy. I also think the wand is a big too big in my opinion. It's long, but what bothers me is that it is very thick and it's harder to get in the little parts, like inside corner of the eye. The wand is of course one of those plastic, silicone ones, which I prefer.

The thing I really hate is the fact that there is way to much product on the wand. I don't know if that gets better with time, because I only have it for about a week. I wipe almost everything off the wand into a paper tissue, like I do with all of the mascaras in the beginning. However, even that doesn't help. A lot of product gets in between the hairs.

This is with both wands the volume and length side.

I find the formula pretty watery. The first ingredient on the list is actually water. I don't think that's a problem, unless you have really long and curled lashes, that way mascara can transfer on the lid. The mascara seems to hold my curl a lot better than some of the previous mascaras, which is a big surprise. If I put on a lot of mascara, I get some fallout after some time. I also think the ingredients list is a lot "cleaner" then some of the mascaras I owned before, which is always a nice thing.

Conclusion: I like the effect it gives to my lashes. It makes them thicker, longer and it adds volume. I think my lashes look like doll lashes and I love it. I like that it holds the curl. Don't like the bug wand and the fact that it holds way too much product.

Have you or would you buy this mascara? Do you like the effect it gives?

Essence LE Metal Glam highlighter and nail polish

Hey Beauties!

I have to say I didn't plan on getting anything from this LE, but when I saw it in the store I sort of fell in love with two products.

I have been on a hunt for a highlighter ever since fresh dewy skin became fashionable. I don't like dewy foundations, but I LOVE highlighters. And finding one in a drugstore? - mission impossible. When I saw this baby - hell yeah! - I had to buy it. I also bought their metal effect nail polish in gold color. If it's supposed to be fashionable, I should give it a try, right? :)

Let's start with the nail polish. It costs 1.99 € and the bottle holds 8 ml of nail polish. I won't lie, I am not a fan of those kind of finishes. However, I have been getting into it this fall. It grew on me. The nail polish shade 04 Gold Digger, is gold - so you see, I was sold :). The shade is a very soft almost white gold and it feels like there are two pigments mixed in it, light gold and light silver. I like the shade a lot. Those sort of finishes can make all of your nail flaws look even bigger, but if you put a few coats and a nice top coat it will look nice. I like it. It won't stay on for a long time, since it is Essence, but it will be great for nail art and such.

My favorite thing of this collection is their highlighter in shade 01 Gold Digger. The packaging is a basic plastic pot and you get 9 ml of product for only 3.29€. Now, that is a good price! I have to say, I am not a fan of packaging, since I have wrecked many such - so be careful with it. I LOVE, LOVE the highlighter. What I like the most about it is the fact that it is a nice nude gold based color. Finally! Not all fair skins have cool undertones! And I am one of these. The gold shimmer in it fits perfectly with my yellow/olive skin tone and I highly recommend it. I was surprised since the shimmer in it is pretty small and really shiny. It gives you some serious highlight. Love, love!

Keep in mind, this is a heavy swatch
Lighter application
Conclusion:
Nail polish: nice color, standard packaging, gives what it says - metal effect, cheap.
Highlighter: awesome price for the amount of product, not sturdy packaging, great shade (especially for warm, yet fair skin tones).

Do you like any of those two products? Did you get anything from this LE?

Makeup inspired by Alessandro 261 nail polish

Hey Beauties!

I have this lovely shade of nail polish that I somehow rediscovered and admired the shade a lot. That's why I decided to try to recreate it in my makeup look.

This is Alessandro nail polish in shade 261. It's such an admiring shade in a bottle. Has some glitters of purple, green, blue and even yellow tones. It's sort of multi-color shade. However I always get disappointed when applying it and realizing it just looks blue on nails. But this is an inspiring makeup and I wanted to recreate the beauty in the bottle :)

I used Maybelline Color Tatto in Permanent Taupe all over the lid with a fluffy brush.

All over the lid I applied royal blue eye shadow (Essence 11 Wild at Heart) with a flat brush. Then I used crease brush to apply violet eye shadow in the crease (Essence Paradise in 01 Cockatoo). I used emerald green eye shadow (Essence 18 Super Babe) on a fluffy brush and applied it only in the center. In the inner corner of the eye I applied light nude highlighting shade (MUA Undress Me Too in Shy) with a little pencil brush.

On the lower lid I also applied Permanent Taupe with a smaller flat brush and then continued with violet shade all over and emerald green in the center only.

I used black eye shadow (MUA Undress Me Too in Corrupt) to create a little winged liner.

I finished with coats of L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes mascara.

I contoured my cheeks also using Maybelline Color Tatto in Permanent Taupe. I find this to be a great gray color for a natural shadow. Then I applied some of my home made red cream blush and highlighter. You can find my DIY cream blush here

On the lips I used IQ Cosmetics in 24 Nude, which I have reviewed here.

And this is my makeup inspired by this gorgeous shade of nail polish.

Do you have any nail polish shades that look so multi-colored and fascinating to you?

Review: Lily Lolo mineral eye colour (Vanilla Shimmer, Deep Purple)

Hey Beauties!

Today I wanted to share my thoughts on mineral make up and that is Lily Lolo mineral eye colour in two shades. I bought both those eye shadows used. I wanted to buy them cheaper and try if I even like the formula and shades, and then maybe decide on buying it new.

I bought two shades, one is called Vanilla Shimmer and the other is Deep Purple. The first thing that confused me was the size of both eye shadows. Vanilla Shimmer claims to contain 1.5 g and Deep Purple 2.5 g. That's kind of off. Since both the shadows have exactly the same packaging - maybe it was a printing mistake, what do I know?! Both are supposed to contain 2.5 g.

The packaging is a plastic pot with a screw-on top. Inside there's this plastic divider (don't know the official name for it) and has three holes. I hate the packaging! Why? Because way too much eye shadow gets through those three holes and then once you open it to use it, you spill a lot of eye shadow all over. Even if you are careful, there is still gonna be some eye shadow on the edge of the pot and you can't gracefully sweep it back in. Just such a waste of products.

The shade Shimmer Vanilla looks very peachy, but it's actually more of a nude color with golden pink shine. On the eyes looks like a light peach shade, if you pack it on fully. It would be a nice highlighting shade for a bit darker skin tones than mine, with golden, yellow undertone. For me it's a bit too orange and dark to go with my natural skin tone. I like using it as an all over the lid shade and then use some contour in the crease and I'm good to go.

Deep Purple is a blue based dark purple and it seems to have some pink blue shine to it. If you just pack the shade on the lid, you get a very intense color. If you blend it out, it becomes a lot sheerer. It's a nice dark purple shade, that would look especially good on dark brown eyes and green eyes.

I find that the pigmentation of both shades is the same. If you pack it on the lid and don't blend out you will get a very pigmented rich color. However, the more you blend eye shadows, the sheerer it gets. If you want just a very light wash of color, you can apply little and blend it out to completely sheer the color out. Which seems to be frustrating at times, at least for me. Because I like my eye shadows to be blended out and I seem to have a problem with this one, since it gets ashy the more I try to blend. Of course the purple has a bigger problem, since it is darker. With the vanilla one, you barely notice anything.

However I really like the feel of them on the eyes. I find them to be a lot lighter to wear-if that makes sense, since they are mineral eye shadows. Initially, I wanted mineral eye shadows as an everyday healthier choice of makeup. I will probably buy at least one more shade, maybe matte brown, to use as a contour in the crease.

Both shades are available in our country for 6,90€, but like I said, I bought them used, so they cost me around 3 € each.

Conclusion: Lovely colors, like that they are mineral eye shadows, the more you blend the sheerer eye shadow becomes, great for everyday looks, hate the packaging.

I would highly recommend them as an everyday eye shadow for people with sensitive eyes or those who prefer natural products. I think a certain skill is needed when blending them, but if you want a simple wash of color all over the lid, it's a fool proof healthier choice.
