Review: Catrice Crystallized Amethyst Eyeshadow Palette 010 Raise Up Your Voice

Catrice has launched a bunch of new products in their standard line. It's part of revamp that they do twice a year. They've added some new eyeshadow palettes and two of those are inspired by crystals. Apparently this is the new "it" thing in beauty world right now. I have been testing out their Crystallized Amethyst Eyeshadow Palette in shade 010 Raise Up Your Voice.

Packaging

Catrice is coming out with some really eye catching packaging lately. This is another one of those pretty ones. Design mimics amethyst stone and I love that it combines purple with metallic gold details. It has cardboard packaging with magnetic closing. Inside you'll also get descent sized mirror.

In it is 13 grams of product and it costs 10.49€.

Formula

I remember Catrice eyeshadow formula being harder to work with, but with every launch, they improve. Metallic shades have more of that wetter formula, although mattes don't feel too dry either. Metallics apply better and look more intense. Mattes you have to build up and some of them can look patchy and harder to blend. In particular one of the more unique shades called Strength. Pigmentation is in general good, metallics are more pigmented than mattes.

Colors

In this palette you get 10 shades with either matte or metallic finish. Colors scheme is inspired by amethyst crystal. I found it to be such a nice change from my usual warm nude palettes. There are a lot of neutrals in this one too, but also some pops of blue and purple. In general it's a more cool toned palette, but there are some warm shades in it as well.

Proud - medium metallic neutral mauve that is so wearable and looks best applied all over the lid.
Mood - medium metallic neutral taupe shade great for all over the lid.
Strength - matte sky blue with silver chunks of glitter that is quite unique shade and will look best as a pop of color on the lid.
Greatest Era - pale matte cool taupe shade that is your perfect transition shade for in the crease.
Powermedium matte warm terra cotta shade which is the only true warm shade in the palette. You can wear it all over or use it in the crease to warm up the look.
Goal Digger - medium metallic warm copper bronze shade that is great for all over the lid.
Amethyst - medium metallic neutral purple has to be the star of this palette and it will work as a pop of color on the lid or all over.
Courage - lighter metallic neutral beige shade which is great for inner corner or as a brightening shade on the lid.
Crystal - lighter metallic warm peach shade is another one of those brightening shades for either in the inner corner or anywhere else.
Vibe medium matte cool taupe which is basically darker version of Greatest Era. It's another cool toned matte shade for in the crease or all over.

As soon as I opened this palette up, my eye went immediately to shades Strength and Amethyst. Those are the two standouts that you can't miss. Others are more or less just variations of nudes.

Strength disappointed me, because it didn't wear as nice as I thought it would. It's essentially matte, but with some shimmer in it and it's by far the least pigmented and most uneven looking. Amethysts is definitely my favorite shade. It's that proper purple that really resembles amethyst crystal - I actually have one small one at home, which you can see on the photo. Plus is looks vibrant.

I also really like Courage, because it's the perfect inner corner shade. Goal Digger is another favorite, since it's in that warmer nude scheme. Power is nice too, but seems to be out of place in this color scheme. It's the only warm shade in it, but it's great for warming up your whole eye makeup. I was surprised by how much I liked Proud. It doesn't look like much in the pan, but it compliments my eye color so well.

Performance

All of these shades have some kick-up in the pan and there is possibility for some fallout, especially with matte shades. Metallics apply evenly and pigmented, while some matte shades can look patchy and you can't really build them up to look as intense as you would like them too.

In general they wear descent. It might be this insanely hot weather that affects my wear time, but I notice them collecting in my crease at the end of the day. But I notice this happening with all my eyeshadows lately, because I don't use eyeshadow primer anymore. I have started to apply concealer as eyeshadow primer, because I don't have any descent primers anymore. So that might be at fault here. I notice some fading through the day, but nothing too noticeable.

I was most impressed with color selection and design of the packaging. Colors are so wearable, yet there are a few pops of color that stand out and make this palette interesting. Unfortunately, the blue stand out doesn't perform as well as it could. It's much more cool toned than I am used to, but because it has some warmer tones too, it can work. This sort of works in its favor, because there are so many warm toned palettes out there that this is a nice change. Design of the packaging is very on trend and cardboard makes it travel friendly. Formula didn't impress me as much. I am used to buttery and pigmented eyeshadows that stay on the lid well. But these are still not up to that standard. However, formula is very nice for drugstore range, much better than their previous formulas and I would recommend these to someone that just wants something inexpensive, yet effective.
