Review: Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner - Black

Does anyone remember Catrice having gel liner in a pot? That one was my favorite gel liner. It stayed in place, was black and so affordable. I was so sad, when they decided to discontinue it. I wanted another gel liner, because it gives you that matte black finish and it's great for creating thinner lines or more creative eye makeup. After some research I decided to try out Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Black

Packaging

It comes in a cardboard box. In it is small matte transparent pot with metal top. It also comes with double sided brush. On one side you have more of a rounded shaped small liner brush and on the other side is the usual sponge applicator that you would get in eyeshadow palettes.

I couldn't find how much product is in it, but this should last you quite a while. It costs around 10€, but I bought it on Lookfantastic, when it was on sale for 7.45€.

The brush is actually nice. It looks a bit like lip brush, but it works. It applies product nicely, the wing however can't be super thin with it. I usually use angled cut eyeliner brushes or thinner brushes to do my winged liner. Sponge applicator is good for blending out, if you want a smokier look.

Formula

It has just enough glide that it doesn't tug on the skin, but it's not too slippery. It gives you enough play time to apply it how you want it, before it dries down completely. You can also smudge it out for smoky eye look. Finish is matte.

Pigmentation is good, but you have to go over the line a few times or apply it thicker to make it completely opaque.

Colors

I believe Maybelline has this gel liner in more shades, but I have seen it in stores in black and brown. Color 01 Black is in fact black, but it's not super intense black. For me it's dark enough.

Performance

This is waterproof, so it lasts really well on the lids. I have had problems with transferring onto upper lid once, but it might have been because of the creamy eyeshadow on the lid. If you have hooded eyes or oily lids, I recommend using eyeshadow primer and matte powders on top to prevent that. But once it dries down, it stays in place and doesn't smudge.

Lips: Revolution Pro Supreme Matte  Lip Pigment - Visionary

This is descent gel eyeliner and one of rare ones in our drugstores. It applies well, pigmentation is fairly good and it stays on well too. I wish it would be more pigmented in one swipe and that it would be extremely budge proof. I just can't get over the fact that Clio liquid liner stays put on and never transfers, even on top of creamier products. I'm debating getting Inglot gel liner, because I have heard it's very difficult to remove, so this tells me it's going to stay in place like no other. If you have tried it already, I would love to hear your thoughts.
