Trend Alert 2019: Neon Eyeliner

Neon is back for the spring and summer of 2019 in pretty much everything, but also makeup. As it has been demonstrated in runway shows, a pop of neon eyeshadow or eyeliner will make you very trendy this upcoming season. I wanted to try out this trend, because it looked very minimalistic, yet colorful in a way.

Let me start with the inspiration for this makeup look. I saw this particular color combination on Katie Jane Hughes Instagram here. If you like scrolling through makeup accounts on Instagram, you must have stumbled upon an neon eye look already. But this one in particular looked so chic and simple in a way. So I tried my best to recreate something similar with the products that I have.

Because I don't have neon eyeliner or cream product of any kind, I applied white eye pencil as a base for the winged eyeliner and tapped over it neon powder eyeshadow. If you ever tried to apply neon nail polish on your nails, you might have heard about the white base trick. If you apply white nail polish as a base and go over it with a neon color, the neon will look much brighter. The same can be applied to eyeshadow. I also applied a neutral matte brown in the crease for just a bit of definition. Then I applied lots of mascara and a very subtle yellow toned highlighter in the inner corners.

Because neon orange eyeshadow is so bright, I wanted to make my complexion look warmer. So I applied the usual BB and foundation mix, concealer and powder. Then I really warmed up my skin with a bronzer. I also applied shimmery peach blush, but not only on the cheeks, but also on the temples and nose, to really make it all look uniformed and like I have a natural sunburn. I also applied peach toned highlighter as a blush topper. For the highlighter I used more of a golden shade and applied it all over on the higher points as that healthy sheen.

I wanted the lips to compliment my peachy vibe, but not clash with the eyes or overpower them. So I skipped lipstick all together and just went for a brownish and coral mix of lip gloss for that added shine and color.

I was hesitant about using neon shade on my eyes, but applied in such a subtle way with very minimal face makeup, this actually looks much more elegant than I expected. It pops out in a good way and compliments eye color so well. I think it's a wearable way of adopting the neon trend. I even went out with that makeup and no one seemed to be bothered by it. Would you wear something like that or is it just too bold for you?

  1. Ravno ta odtenek pride čudovito :D Se spomnim, ko je imel Essence neko pomladno LE in je imel tri barvne eyelinerje, sicer pastelne, ampak če bi še enkrat imeli kaj podobnega, bi verjetno kar kupila, da sprobam :D

    1. Hvala : Ko so bili minty, lavender in bel?
