Review: Lavera Double Black Mascara

Hey Beauties!

I know a lot of beauty products are full of harmful and toxic ingredients. A person can't help, but ask himself, why do the beauty products need to be so harmful, if they seem to bring you so much fun. Whether it's putting on colorful lipstick or creating smoldering eye look. There's nothing I can do about it. I did however decide to try to put at least a few more natural products in my routine. Especially for my every day makeup.

Since my eyes were hurting the most, I decided to go for a natural mascara. Don't you hate when mascara dries on the lashes, and later starts to fall down? And god forbid, that you may be lying on the bed or couch, it just all starts to fall into your eyes. Then I want to get it out, my eyes get blood red and I end up taking it down. That was the main reason behind me buying natural mascara.

Enough of that. I heard good reviews about this on and since Lisa Eldridge also used it in a video - well, if she uses it, then of course, it has to be good! :) That's why I bought Lavera Double Black Mascara.

It has two sides. One side is volumizing and other side is lengthening. I bought it for 10.99€ and I got 5.5 ml of mascara. The amount is smaller than most of the drugstore mascaras and the price is higher than say, Maybelline mascaras, but on the same page as L'Oreal or some other drug store mascaras.

The brush for length, I am not a fan of, at all! It has rubber hairs and they are just too far apart for my taste. Which means - clumping the lashes. That is also why, I feel that, too much of the product gets in between the hair, leading to clumped lashes.

The brush for the volume is one of those "old school" hairs in a cone like positioning. I am also not a fan of those hair, but it seems to work just fine.

The formula seems to be the same on both sides. I have to say, wipe it down, before you use it. Especially in the beginning, because there will be too much product on the brush, as it is with most mascaras. I feel that it is pretty wet, although it dries fairly quick. It is also pretty black. I compared it with my L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes, which is in Extra Black and I found the Lavera one to be a bit more greyish than L'Oreal one. But still, in my opinion black enough.

Here are my eyes with no mascara.

As far as the application goes, I think it all comes down to a brush. Or at least, a lot! I seem to hate lengthening  brush, because it does not separate the lashes, instead I feel it clumps them up, because the hairs are too sparse and too much product gets in between. Although, I do feel the brush spreads product to the end of the lashes, therefore making them seem longer, but clumped - in my case.

The volumizing brush is great. It separates the lashes and makes them look full. Not like most of the drug store mascaras, but enough for a natural mascara. The lashes seem to be a lot thinner than with the lengthening brush, but there seem to be more of them.

And here are my lashes with both applications. For volume and length.

Since I am a sucker for volume, I use only volumizing side. I hate the lengthening side, because it makes my lashes look like a spider - an ugly one. To each his one. Maybe you would like the other side more :).

I have to say some of the mascaras, were making my eyes water a lot, and it also made my eyes sting. I don't find that with this mascara. It feels very light on the eyes and doesn't seem to run into my eyes. That's why I like it - it's just a lot more sensitive on my eyes.

Recommendations: Less is more! I feel that mascara can clump very quickly, if you apply too much of the product. I also recommend waiting a bit between the coats, so the mascara can really dry, before you apply another coat. Find out which side is better for you and use that one. You can always switch brushes to go on the other side. I recommend it to anyone who want natural look of the lashes or someone who has very sensitive eyes.

Essie Big Spender

Hey Beauties!

I have a confession... This is my first Essie nail polish - ever! I know, i know, shame on me... well, I just always thought it was too expensive. But lately, I am on a mission to try more brands of nail polish and then decide which ones I like the most. Essie was one of those I had to try.

I decided to buy it in the color Big Spender, because I don't have anything similar in my collection and I love purple color, a lot.

What I like the most about this nail polish is the brush. Ok, so I thought Bourjois One Seconde nail polish had the best brush ever...well, this one is almost better, or at least as good as Bourjois one. As you can see on the photos below, I love the fact that, when you apply pressure on the brush it spreads and covers entire nail, even a thumb! If you apply less pressure, you can paint pinkie in one stroke. I love that!

Essie has some great colors, obviously. I like Big Spender, because it seems to be a mixture of pink and violet, so a light purple. They really have a lot of variations of each basic color.

I also find that the more coats you apply, the darker the color becomes. As you can see down below, one coat results in a pinkish purple. When you apply a second coat, the color becomes darker.

I can't speak about how long lasting it is, because I didn't have a chance to try it enough.

I bought this one for 8.92€ (in Bipa, where they had 15% discount on makeup). The usual price in our country is a little over 10€. You get 13.5 ml of product, which is on a larger side for nail polish.

What do you like the best about Essie nail polishes? Which is your favorite Essie nail polish color?

DIY: Anti-dust phone plug

Hey Beauties!

I do a lot of browsing on Ebay and I saw very pretty anti-dust plugs for phones. I was about to order one, but then decided to make it. Here is how I did it :).

The first thing is to take old ear phones and used the part which goes into the devices to connect. Let's just call it plug thing :). I am sure a lot of you have old plastic ear plugs that you wanted to throw away. Well, if you didn't, here is a chance to reuse them.

I used modeling clay to make two hearts as a base for my plug. There's nothing to it. Make a ball, then flatten it and use a regular knife to get the shape of the heart. Don't worry if it's not perfect, you can remodel it after it has been baked.

Before the backing I put a needle through one, which will be dangling down. One of the hearts I placed on the phone plug thing, to create a whole on which it will later be.

After it is backed by instructions on the clay, you can use sandpaper to file it down and make the surface of a heart as smooth as you want it to be.

I used all purposed glue to add nail rhinestones on the heart that has a whole. It may not look all that in close, but it gives a nice shine from far away.

The other one I painted with nail polish and drew some baroque design on. I know, I am a little obsessed with this baroque thing :). Then I glued it on the plug thing.

At the end I added some small beads to one of them, and gold small chain to the other one, to really get the whole look together. Here is how it came out.

Like I always say, if you have to much time, try it and please send me some photos ;).
