I haven't heard of Blithe as a brand before, but when I was researching these products, I found that they are pretty popular in terms of winning some beauty awards. Their page is Korean, so I can't read it. Basically, it's supposed to be a natural brand that doesn't test on animals. Their main goal is to prevent visible aging signs caused by pollution. Ingredients are supposed to be pure and packaged into modern formulas. Because it's also sold in Sephora, I would categorize it as high end skin care brand.
Jolse often times has products that they give away for review purposes and you can apply. If you get chosen, they send the product to you and you write a review for your blog. I find it to be a great way of discovering new Korean skin care that I wouldn't notice otherwise.
Blithe Patting Water Pack Energy Yellow Citrus & Honey
I haven't heard of patting water packs before, but apparently it's a well known and popular routine in Korea. They describe it as innovative way to mask, because you apply this so called "mask" in the shower and it's in fact a liquid. It's inspired by Korean bathhouse tradition of splashing botanical steeped water onto the face after the cleansing to tone and brighten the skin. You should splash it onto the face for about 15 seconds and it delivers moisturizing effects as well as gently exfoliates.
Packaging
It comes in a yellow transparent packaging. I actually like the simplistic geometric inspired design. It seems high end to me. The cap is plastic, neutral toned and has nice embossed B on it. I dislike the cap system for pouring it in the water, because some of the product stays in the cap and later spills when you put it back on. Dropper would be a better solution. In the packaging you get 200 ml of product and it costs 39.70$ (Jolse).
Formula
It contains lactic acid as the second ingredient right after water. Lactic acid is alpha hydroxy acid and is known for being the safest AHA for sensitive skin, because it's fairly gentle. AHA will exfoliate your dead skin cells and make your skin smoother as well as help with reducing dark spots. It also contains honey extract for nurturing and hydrating. You'll also find orange and lemon fruit extracts in it for that brightening and reducing hyper pigmentation. Full list of ingredients here.
It doesn't contain any synthetic dyes, fragrances, mineral oils, parabens, sulfates and phthalates.
It's a liquid that has just a bit of oily feel to it (it does contain castor oil), if you apply it directly on the skin. However, you're meant to dilute it with water.
You can either use it in the shower by splashing a capful onto the face and rinsing it with water or pour a capful of mask in the clean bowl of water, making sure it is in ratio 1:100. One capful would require 700 ml of water. Then you would splash it onto the face for about 15 seconds and either let it dry or pat dry.
It has what I would describe very spa like scent, hence the bathhouse inspired experience, and it's fairly strong. To me it smells of citrus mixed with something herbal. I don't really detect any honey. I actually really enjoy the scent, because it makes for pleasurable experience, even though I'm not too keen on scented skin care in general. But this one feels more natural in fragrance and it says there's no added artificial fragrance anyway.
It's meant for sensitive, combination, normal and dry skin. Basically, it's an exfoliating and brightening treatment that I would describe more as a toner solution instead of a mask in traditional meaning. I used it at my toner step in the evening as well as sometimes in the morning. It is recommended to be used two times a day. At first I used a whole capful, but then I realized it's a bit wasteful, so I just used half of it mixed with water in a bowl.
Performance
So far I've been using it for three weeks, which is minimal time to really grasp my thoughts on skin care product. I definitely noticed immediate brightening effect after I let it dry on the face. My whole skin looked more even toned as well as brighter in general. My sallowness around the mouth area is still here and not noticeably brighter, but that is my problem area that never really goes away. I didn't notice my freckles becoming lighter in tone, but for that I would have to use it longer. I also started to notice that my skin felt smoother after I've been using it for a while and I didn't use any other acids while using this. But it's definitely a very mild acid. I am used to some stronger BHAs by now, so the effect is minimal in my eyes. You will need to apply some sort of product after using it, because the skin feels just a bit tight, or mine definitely did. But then again, moisturizer is essential for any skin type and definitely go in with something after using this.
The concept is a bit time consuming in my mind, because I would prefer to just have it mixed in the packaging already, so I wouldn't have to deal with a bowl, water and splashing it on the face. If you like to take time for your skin care routine and really pamper yourself, you would probably like it. I didn't notice any major changes in my skin, but I appreciate it being so gentle. I think sensitive skin will benefit from it the most, just make sure to dilute it. I wouldn't apply it straight on sensitive skin. It also looks and feels luxurious, so you're buying the whole experience not just the actual product. Not to mention that the ingredients are lovely.
Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum
With the mask I also received small pot of Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum. It's an anti-polluaging serum and moisturizer hybrid.
Packaging
Small version came in plastic transparent pot and in it was 10 ml of product. Full size comes in 50 ml and costs 38.25$ (Jolse).
Formula
Serum is packed with 60% tundra chaga mushroom extract which is cold processed to preserve optimal nutrients and the first ingredient on the list. Mushroom extract is combined with blend of fermented oils which are olive, argan and meadowfoam seed oil. It should minimize visible signs of aging and pollution, hydrate, nourish and soften. It has muddy brown creamy texture, but as soon as you start to massage it into the skin it almost feels like water. Very fresh and not at all greasy or emollient, which was such a surprise since it contains so many oils, but you really don't feel it on the skin. It's very lightweight.
Scent is faint and to me a bit herbal sweet. I can't say what it actually smells of.
Performance
This should be used after toning and that is how I used it. In the morning as well as in the evening. The feel and texture that turns from cream to almost watery feel is superb. It feels nourishing on the skin, but it's not oily, sticky or heavy. It definitely is what they describe as a serum and moisturizer mixture. I find it it to be hydrating and nourishing. As far as my fine lines goes, I didn't notice any major difference, but then again, you need to use anti-aging skin care religiously for longer periods of time to see any difference. It's meant for normal, dry and sensitive skin. I definitely didn't notice any irritation, it felt gentle.
I am most impressed with the texture of it. In general formulation of both of these seems really nice. No extra unneeded ingredients, just the good stuff. It felt more nourishing than just a simple moisturizer. I like that this is almost two steps in one, moisturizer and serum, so it saves me time. The effects weren't super noticeable, but it's a good product that didn't irritate and it helped my skin to look moisturizer and plump.
Both of these products feel very luxurious in terms of the scent, formula as well as just the basic ingredients list. The packaging and design is lovely, but not overly wasteful just for the sake of being luxurious. I feel like the price tag is steep, but definitely mirrors the ingredients and refined textures in them. I personally, don't have the budget to maintain that kind of skin care routine, but if you're looking for something more natural, yet luxurious feeling on the skin and you have more sensitive skin, you should take another look at Blithe.

Thanks for the review! I recently purchased one of Blithe's pressed serums: the cooling one in the blue packaging. So far I quite enjoy it! Didn't know Jolse still did the sending products for reviews thing. That's pretty cool! Can't find anything about it on their website though. :S
ReplyDeleteI was so surprised by the texture of those serums. It looks like cream, but goes on almost watery. Lovely feel :). Yes, they still do that. You have to wait for them to announce it on their main page. Sometimes they have some products for review and sometimes they don't. Check on their page a few time ;).
