Review: Essence Stay 8h Lipliner Waterproof - 03 so default

Essence constantly changes their assortment and I sometimes wonder, if it's even worth writing a full review, since it might get discontinued soon. Essence Stay 8h Lipliners Waterproof have been added in the range at the end of this year, so they are fairly new.

Review: Catrice Lip Foundation Pencil (020 Caramel Blonde To Go, 030 Addicted To Cafe Au Lait)

One of the Catrice novelties that got my attention when I saw it in the store, were their Lip Foundation Pencils. I adore Essence lip pencil formulas, but Catrice's were usually a bit drier and they didn't have as many nudes. Now they came out with a range dedicated only to nude lip colors. 


It comes in a pencil form with black design. The bottom and cap should indicate the shade inside, although I would urge you to test them in the store, if they offer testers. 

In each is 1.3 grams of product and it costs 2.59€.


My problem with lip pencils is that they usually have names written on the pen and once you sharp it a few times, the name is gone. These have names on the caps, just don't mismatch them, if you have more then one. 


It's a regular pen that you have to sharp and it fits into most regular sharpeners.


Catrice offers 4 nude shades. The lightest one 010 Can't You Hear That Super Base? was a bit too pink for my liking. I like nudes to be more warm toned and less pink. I also didn't get the darkest shade called 040 Take You To The Chocolate Shop as it looked too dark for my natural lip color. In general these are all very much suited for light to medium skin tones. If you're darker, these will look too pale on you.

I got two shades that seemed the most similar to my natural lip color, although I have very pale lips anyway. The shade 020 Caramel Blonde To Go is a more pink toned nude with warm undertone. 030 Addicted To Cafe Au Lait is more peach toned nude and it also has warm undertone. 


I compared it to some of my other similar lip liner shades. Golden Rose Dream Lips Lipliner in 501 is the peachiest nude of these all and it's somewhat brighter than others. Essence Lipliner in 11 In The Nude (old formula) has similar warm nude tone, but it's a bit more brownish and slightly darker. 


The formula reminds me of the old Essence Lipliner formula. New one is a bit harder to the touch, while older version was creamier. Essence Longlasting Lipliners are even creamier than this one from Catrice and could easily be categorized under lipsticks. I find that it's the most similar to my Golden Rose Dream Lips Lipliner formula, which I adore. It has the perfect combination of good pigmentation, creamy waxy texture and it's not greasy. 

Finish doesn't have any shine. It's what they describe velvet matte and I agree. It's smooth to apply, but gives you wanted precision and it wears comfortably. I don't feel like it dries out my lips, but it's a matte formula, so it won't nourish the lips either. It will accentuate any dry patches that you may have.

On me these last really well, like normal bullet version of matte lipsticks. 

You can also see how both shades look on me. The difference between these is minimal, but you can still notice one being more pink and one being more peachy nude.





I am a true lover of nude lipsticks and even more so of nude lip pencils. With a nude lip pencil I can define my lips and even cheat a bit with making them slightly larger on certain parts. It gives you the lasting power of a matte lipstick, but doesn't dry out your lips. Formula is creamy enough, but also precise enough for detailed application. Both nude shades are perfect my-lips-but-better shades. I am really impressed with these and for the price, you should really try at least one shade, if you like nude lip pencils.

Review: Golden Rose Dream Lips Lipliner - 501

Hey Beauties!

I've had this Golden Rose Dream Lips Lipliner on my wishlist and my friend Sabina got it for me for my birthday. Since their lipsticks are so raved about and I actually own one from the Vision range, I wanted to try out lip liner as well. For the price, you really can't go wrong. 


It comes in a pencil form with matte black design. The cap and bottom part shows you the shade that is inside. 

In it is 1.4 grams of product and I believe the price is something over 1€.


It's a very soft pencil that glides on the lips with such ease. Texture is creamy and it can easily replace lipstick. I love to wear it own it's own. It has matte finish, but is not drying, since it is on the creamy side. 

The pigmentation is really nice and you only need to apply one layer to cover the lips entirely. 

It is still just hard enough to provide you precise application with soft natural looking lip edges. It doesn't feel drying, but has a really nice staying power. With eating it will come off. It doesn't cling to dry patches as some really hard pencils do, but it obviously doesn't look best over them. 


Shade 501 is warm peachy brown. I have fair skin tone and it's actually a soft peachy brown shade on me. On darker skin tones this can easily be used as a nude shade.



I compared it with some of my other nude and brown shades. Essence Lipliner in 11 In The Nude (new version) is actually really close, but a bit more  brownish (almost slightly cooler) and I find it less peachy than Golden Rose. 

Formula is similar to Essence Longlasting Lipliners, but those are a bit heavier on the lips and thicker (like proper cream lipsticks). Golden Rose Dream Lips provides you the coverage, but stays really light on the lips.




I also used it in my Feline Flick and Cut Crease makeup look. 


Dream Lips lip liners seem to be right up my alley. They are creamy, but still provide you with precision. They don't dry out the lips and feel lightweight. Shade 501 is my typical warm peachy nude, but kind of brown shade for every day wear. The price is also incredible. If I ever get to see these lip liners in person, I will for sure be buying more of them.

Review: Essence Lipliners - new formula (11 In The Nude, 06 Satin Mauve)

Hey Beauties!

Essence recently changed their lip liner range. I believe the formulas are new, but I'm not sure if they also changed the colors (I can only say they did change 11 In The Nude). My old version of 11 In The Nude was getting smaller so I went in the store for a new one to find the new formula and design. I chose an additional mauve shade, which is actually perfect for autumn time. 


The first change they made is the fact that the caps are the same color as pens. It makes it easier to find the right shade, if you have it in a glass for example. Before all of them had silver caps. I was also really surprised to see that they have a transparent sticker with ingredients list on the sides of pens. Really nice surprise. 

Each lip liner costs 1.19€ and you get 1 gram of product. 


As far as the formula goes, it's pretty hard now. Before there lip liners were so soft that you could easily mistaken them for lipsticks. I guess they felt the need to change that?! I liked the previous formula, because I saw it as a new lipstick for a very cheap price, but I get why they harden them. The lip liner should be a bit harder to prevent the lipstick from going over the line and to make it last longer, so I am not mad at Essence. Now their formula seems very similar to Catrice Longlasting Lip Pencils. 

They are still creamy enough to easily spread over lips, but stay in place.

This means that lip liners are a lot more long lasting then they were before and that they stay in place and help to prolong the wear of lipsticks. 


11 In The Nude is light nude brown with peach undertone. On me it's definitely more of a brown shade and in no way nude. On someone with medium skin tone this could pass as a nude. It has a very obvious peach undertone to it. 

06 Satin Mauve is as the name suggests a mauve shade. It's a really nice lighter mauve hue which is a great base for mauve and plum lipsticks. It has more of a warm undertone to it, which almost makes it look a bit brown. I like to just wear it on its own, because the shade is so pretty. 



As you can see 11 In The Nude looks like a really nice warm light brown on me. I feel like this is my kind of nude, because it compliments my warm skin tone as well as gives my lips some color. I pair it with many brown and nude shades and really like it. 


Here I put MAC Velvet Teddy on top of it.


I've been told that some think Essence Lipliner 11 In The Nude is a dupe for MAC Velvet Teddy and I disagree. Here is a swatch of both. Velvet Teddy is darker, has a lot deeper brown hue to it and almost seems to have a bit of mauve undertone to it, while 11 In The Nude is peachier brown. In no way a dupe, just to clarify. 

I also swatched old formula of 11 In The Nude and as you can see the shades are a little different. Old version was actually a lot more brown and a tad darker. New version has more of a peach undertone and is lighter. I actually really like the change, because I'm pretty fair and you know I love warm toned shades. 


06 Satin Mauve looks like a really nice not too dark mauve shade on my lips. Yes, it's still pretty dark and in no way nude or my lips but better shade on me. I think this has a perfect mix of brown and mauve and I absolutely adore it. One big plus for me is the fact that it's still warm enough for me, since a lot of purples, plums and mauves can be more cool toned. 


I decided to apply MAC Patisserie over it, which is a lot lighter, but just gives it a bit of shine and moisture on top. 


I am in love with both shades. The formula is harder, long lasting and makes for a great lip pencil. The price is just right and I am sure I'll be buying more. Essence lip liners are my favorite lip liners / pencils. I definitely recommend you to try these, if you still haven't.

Review: Essence Longlasting Lipliners (02 Sweetheart, 04 Peach Beauty, 05 Lovely Frappuccino, 06 A Girl's Dream)

I've already reviewed one of these Essence lip liners and since I loved the formula so much, I went and got three more shades.


I already reviewed 04 Peach Beauty here. When I went back I just grabbed the shades spontaneously, which I thought I need in my collection of lip liners. I saw 05 Lovely Frappuccino on some other blogs and immediately liked it, but wasn't sure how it was going to look like on my fair skin. I decided I needed a pink lip liner, since I've been getting into some pink lipsticks and also got 02 Sweetheart. 06 A Girl's Dream looked like a wearable red to me and I really like reds in general, so I got it. 


Essence Longlasting Lipliners are one of those that don't need to be sharpened. You just twist the bottom and it comes out. I've heard these might fall out, but it didn't happen to me. But do check the liner in the store, before you buy it. They are very pigmented and feel more creamy than a hard pencil. It's a very thick consistency and once you apply it, it will stay put for a long time, if you don't drink or eat. I like to use these lip liners instead of or under a lipstick. If I'm being honest, most of the time I just use them instead of a lipstick. They don't dry out my lips, which is always and plus in my case. 

The price is 1.59€ for 0.23 grams. 



Essence Longlasting Lipliner in 05 Lovely Frappuccino

Lovely Frappuccino is to me like mauve brown. It has that mauve (purplish) tone to it, but it's more on a brown side. I don't find that this shade suits me. It's definitely those 90's lip trend shade, but I feel like it's too dark on me. I might use it with MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick.



Essence Loglasting Lipliner in 06 A Girl's Dream

A Girl's Dream is a cherry red shade. It's one of those wearable shades that I think would suit a lot of different skin tones. I definitely like this shade and will be pairing it with many red lipsticks. 



Essence Longlasting Lipliner in 02 Sweetheart

Sweetheart is fuchsia pink. It's definitely not my usuall shade, but it's grown on me. I'm starting to really like those fuchsia and magenta based pinks. It looks really vibrant and lifts up your entire makeup.



Essence Longlasting Lipliner in 04 Peach Beauty

I decided to add photos of this one as well, but I have a review here. It's definitely a true peach shade and the one that I always tend to go for.



You can see how some of these lip liners look like on Sara and Taya.

If you want a new lip shade choice and don't want to buy the whole lipstick, because you're never gonna finish it like me or if you want some pretty good lip liner shades, then try these. I think they're worth the money, because they're really pigmented and last a good amount of time on me. I also always find it a plus that despite being so thick and creamy, they still don't dry out my lips.

Review: Essence Longlasting Lipliner (04 Peach Beauty), Essence Longlasting Lip Pencil (160 Sweet Nothing)

I decided to review these two lip products together, since they are both new editions to regular Essence and Catrice ranges. 


Essence Longlasting Lipliner 04 Peach Beauty

This is a really creamy soft lip liner. It's one of those that doesn't need to be sharpen. You just swirl it to get more out. It's really creamy, almost too soft for a lip liner. The finish is perfectly matte and it has a very good pigmentation. One swipe gives you a really bold color. 



The shade matches its name. It really is a beautiful warm peach shade. Exactly my kind of color. I like to use this as a base under peach toned lipsticks, but I also love to use it on its own, since it is so creamy that it can easily pass as a lipstick. The staying power is also really good. Not as much as really hard lip pencils, but really good staying power of moisturizing pigmented lipstick. On that note, if Essence made lipsticks with this formula, I would totally buy it. It doesn't dry out my lips, which is always a plus.

There's 0.23 grams of product and it costs 1.59€.



Catrice Longlasting Lip Pencil 160 Sweet Nothing

This one is a bit different. It's harder, but still very creamy. You won't confuse it with a lipstick, but it's also not a typical hard lip liner. I actually don't mind creamier lip pencils, but if you do, than it's probably not for you. You have to sharpen this one, in order to get the perfect tip. 



The shade is really interesting. You may not see it on the photo, but it's very warm peach toned nude. I actually though that this would be a lot more white or nude, but the peach undertone is very obvious. It does look sickening pale on me, so essentially it does look like nothing. But if you look closely at the edges of my lips, you can see that it's a lot peachier than my skin around my lips. 

I will say this is a perfect lip base for those extremely nude lipsticks - which I'm not a fan of, since I look dead with them. It's also good as a highlight. You can apply it on the center of the lips and then go over with lipstick, to make the lips look more 3D. It's also good for cupids bow, since it does make it a bit lighter and it pops out.

I think this could also be used as a corrective lip liner. You know, when you get lipstick a bit out of the lips, you could correct it with this lip liner, if it was very similar to your skin tone. On me it does look a bit off, because of the peach undertone. 

It's well pigmented and it's matte. The staying power is good, but it can be a bit drying.




I decided to go over it with a darker brown lipstick (MAC Velvet Teddy) and you can see that the edges look a bit highlighter, where lipstick didn't covered lip liner. So now you get why I think it's good as a lip highlight. It really pops out on the cupids bow. I guess now you have an option of really pale lip liner, under every kind of lipstick, to prolong its wear and maybe use it as a under highlight. I will say the peach undertone did confuse me. They could just make a more neutral nude?!

There's 0.78 grams of product and it costs 2.29€.



Swatches of both of these. Here is a lot more obvious - the peach undertone. 


I like both lip liners, but I think Sweet Nothing peach undertone is unnecessary. Both feel creamy, but Essence feels almost like a creamy lipstick. They both serve different purpose, but I find them to be a really good cheap lip liners.
