Review: Maybelline Color Show nail polishes (677 Blackout, 549 Midnight Taupe)

I have mentioned that I love Maybelline nail polishes, especially because they seem to stay really well on my nails. When I had the chance to grab some from their Color Show, I went for two classic shades, that I know I'll wear a lot.


Both nail polishes contain 7 ml of nail polish and each costs 2.99 €, but I got it for 2.39€. I didn't know the Color Show nail polishes had a name. That is so refreshing and better to remember. 



677 Blackout is a regular pitch black nail shade. It's really opaque with just one coat. It's also a bit thicker in consistency, but I love that. The application was really nice. They have the regular nail brushes and I especially liked that I didn't need to put on two coats.




549 Midnight Taupe is dark taupe (brown grey) shade, which is very nice classic shade in my opinion. This one is a lot thinner than the black one and you'll definitely need at least two coats. 


I usually apply one thin coat and then the second very thick coat. It's not the most even application, because that would require three coats, but I just don't like to have too many coats on. If this one would be as opaque as black, it would be perfect. 



Well, I at least found my perfect black nail polish. I can't say I'm overly excited about the taupe shade, but it still looks really nice, it just takes a bit more work. They are both pretty long lasting on me, but then I do really like the lasting power of all Maybelline nail polishes. The price is also not bad at all. Now I just wish Color Show range would also be available in Slovenia.

Review: Kiko Eyebrow Marker and Quick Dry Nail Lacquer

A few weeks ago my boyfriend went to Italy and I seized the opportunity to send him in Kiko store. Some other too, but unfortunately, they didn't have what I wanted. This is my first ever Kiko purchase. Sadly, I didn't get everything I wanted, because some things were sold out. I really like what I got and will sure be looking up this brand, whenever I'll go somewhere.


This Kiko Eyebrow Marker was really interesting. It promised to be pretty long lasting, like a sort of tattoo. I got it in the shade 02, which is for blondes. Personally, I think the shade is too dark for blondes, but it looks very natural on me.


Eyebrow marker has a sponge tip and it transfers color pretty equally. The tip is sometimes a problem, because I use it over some foundation that's left in between the brows and then the foundation sticks onto the marker, therefore makes it harder to transfer the color.


The shade is like a brown grey shade and it works like a marker. It leaves the slight color, but nothing too obvious or pigmented. The shade is perfect for my natural brows, because my brows are pretty taupe or greyish. I use this marker when I want to achieve very natural looking brows. I find that the pencil cover the whole brow area, therefore making it look a bit fake or overdone. Using this marker, the brows look really natural. I make short strokes to feather additional "fake" hair in between the brows. It lasts a really long time, but is definitely not waterproof.

It costs 5.90 € and there's 1.6 grams of product in it. I don't know for how long this will last, but I have been using it for two weeks or three and it's still as pigmented as it was before.


Here you can also see how buildable the look is with this marker. From just filling in the gaps, to making the brows a lot thicker and fuller.




Since there weren't other things that I wanted, my boyfriend also bought me one of their Quick Dry Nail Lacquers. I got it in this beautiful very dark violet shade called 829. I love the shade and I love the nail lacquer. It dries really quickly, has a bit wider brush, which makes application a dream and one coat is very pigmented. 


I did put on two coats, just because I always do that. Here's how it looks like with one and two coats. It dries so quickly that it makes my life a lot easier. It also was pretty long lasting.

There's 10 ml of product in it and it costs 3.90 €.



Overall a pretty good choices and I love the formulas of both products. So far, so good for Kiko. I wish I'll have the chance to try something else as well :).

Review: Maybelline Bleached Neons in shade 241

Hey Beauties!

Have you seen this new Maybelline line of nail polishes called Bleached Neons? I saw it the other week and had to get a peach one. I only saw about three shades, one was pink I think and the other was light green. Don't know if there are more shades available in this range.


If a neon peach and pastel peach nail polish had a baby, than this would be it. It really is like a washed out neon. The shade somehow looks a bit more yellow on the photos, but in really life it's like a toned down version of bright peach shade. This will be absolutely perfect for spring and summer tanned skin. 

You need at least two coats, maybe three to get the perfect coverage. It contains 7 ml of nail polish and costs 2.45 €.

Review: Yes Love colour speckled nail polish

How about that funny nail polish? I got it a long time ago, but thought the review would be appropriate right about now, since the Easter is coming soon and this nail polish looks perfect for that time of year. 


I got this nail polish as a gift for birthday, because I was eyeing it in the store. It's actually from one of the Chinese stores that I don't even know the name of. I believe the price is around 2€ and it contains 15 ml of nail polish. The packaging has a silver top and it's see-through glass.

The brush of this nail polish is pretty much regular nail polish brush. The nail polish doesn't have a shade name, it just says Colour Speckled on the top lid of it.

The nail polish is actually minty, but looks light blue on most of the photos. It has a lot of different sizes of hexagons in it. Those are pink, violet, black and blue color. I really like the multiple sizes, because it makes the nail polish that more interesting. It applies nicely and I love that the speckles come out with every application. So there's no need for fishing them out like crazy. It's pretty sheer with one coat, bu the second one should be enough. Make two thicker coats or three sheer coats to get the full color on the nails.

Anyways, I just wanted to share this random cute find. So, when you see a Chinese store make sure to check out some of their nail polishes ;). These speckled polishes are pretty popular in this Easter time, so here's one cheaper alternative for those who might me looking for it.

Review: Essence Nail Candies nail polish in 05 Sugar pie, honey bunch

So Essence has refreshed it's line of products and I admit I had some saved on my phone to buy as soon as I can get my hands on. Most of those hadn't come yet or were already sold out. I am also trying to (trying is the right word - it's a torture) avoid buying nail polishes, because I think I have too many of them and I don't use them as often as I should have. But, Essence new nail candies were on my list long before my nail soberness, so I bought one to try and report to you.


Now, why did I want it? Because it promises to be a 6 in 1 nail polish. How could I resist that? I don't know about you, but I love trying anything that seems to be over promising its abilities. Let's see if it lives up to the promises.

First of all the nail polishes come in a typical glass packaging with a standard brush. There's 8 ml of nail polish and costs 1.99 €. 

You can choose between 7 shades from two pink shades, peach, lavender, yellow, mint and I believe one white. I was in front of the Essence stand deciding like stupid, which one to get. I decided on the lavender shade called 05 Sugar pie, honey bunch. All the shades are pastels. Little did I know, my deciding was a waste of time. The shade is so sheer that I could have gotten any color and it would make no difference. 

The shade has very little shimmer in it and, as I've said, it's extremely sheer. I admit, I expected more color. So if you want it because of the color - it's not worth it. Here you can see how it looks like with two coats.



What about the promises?

Softly shimmer nail candies with 6 benefits for beautiful, manicured nails: hardening, protecting, ridge filling, fast drying and fruity scented with a high gloss finish.

Hardening: YES (My nails are definitely harder than without the nail polish, but don't expect anything crazy hard, unless you put on a lot of coats.)
Protecting: FROM WHAT? I don't get this one. (Of course it protects my nails from outer environment, since I have the nail polish on my nails?! Yeah, moving on...)
Ridge filling: YES (My nails are not in a good condition and the nail polished definitely filled in all the gaps that I may have on the nails - also breakage.)
Fast drying: YES (It dries really fast, BUT if you scratch the nail hard, there will be a line - top coat is still a safer option.)
Fruity scented: YES (The smell is very sweet fruity. For the love of God, do not smell the nail polish straight from the bottle or right after the application, because you will only damage your nerve system. The scent develops after drying and it starts fading after 24 hours.)
High gloss finish: YES (The finish is definitely very glossy and shiny.)

So that's what, 6 out of 6? I have to admit the defeat. I was sure these nail polishes will not live up to its promises, but they proved me wrong. The only thing I would like more is more opaque color. In fact, Essence, why not do the regular range of shades with this formula? I know, I would start buying those.

It says that it's a a beautifying nail polish. I should have known its primer job it's not coloring. So if you like all the benefits of the nail polish, I recommend, because it does what it promises. Just don't expect much from the color.

Maybelline Colorama 150 nail polish

Hey Beauties!

If you saw my last nail art you saw this beautiful classic red nail polish from Maybelline. I wanted to make a separate post about this shade. I really like the classic red nail polishes and funny enough don't have more then one of these shades. You know my love for Maybelline nail polishes and when I saw this classic, I had to get it.


Its a beautiful classic red, with a more orange undertone. Perfect for this holiday season and anyone who loves classics.

The nail polish is pretty thin and one coat can still show through some of the nail. Two coats should be enough, but don't expect crazy creamy and pigmented nails. I think that is exactly the beauty of Maybelline's nail polishes. They're very thin in consistency, which makes them pretty long lasting. And I love long lasting nail polishes.

For the price of 2 something € you get 7 ml of product. Totally worth it.

Review: Essie Toggle to the top

Hey Beauties!

I got a coupon for 50% off of three Essie nail polishes (in DM). I'm sure a lot of my fellow Slovenian bloggers seized the opportunity as well. But, when I was in store, I only fell in love with one shade, which is from their new Winter 2013 collection.


The shade is called Toggle to the top and it looks like dark red wine shade with slightly lighter red glitter. It's very festive for the season and looks so pretty.




The red shade is perfect for autumn as well as winter time and the glitter in it, just makes it a bit more interesting and great for parties. One coat is enough to get the full color. The glitters in this polish are actually silver - because I already applied it and then took it off, so I saw it. Because the glitter is silver and it's in the dark red nail polish, that makes the glitter a bit lighter, because of the base - which is silver. I love how simple this sounds, although I would have never thought of such a trick :).

I like it with a top coat, because it smooths the glitters and makes it a bit more shiny.



Essie nail polishes contain 13.5 ml of product and cost 9.95 € in Slovenia, but I bought it for 4.98 €.

Review: Essence LE Superheores thermo effect nail polish

Last week I found new LE of Essence. Actually is it new or is it old already? Anyways, all of the nail polishes were there, but I only took the one with the thermo effect, because I don't own any such cool effect nail polish :).


This nail polish is thermo effect and the shade is called 01 Fanstastic Girl. It reacts to cold and hot and changes color. When you have warm hands it's pink and when you have cold hands it turns into purple.


It's very sheer and runny. One coat looks weir, you need at least two. Here is how it looks with one and two coats. Do excuse my dry hands, it's that season again, when my lips and hands turn into Sahara desert.




On the nail polish is also a color combo, which corresponds the actual colors, which you get either with cold or hot conditions. As you can see on the photos down below, the swatch on the nail polish is pretty accurate.





If your tips of nails get cold you get a cool gradient effect. Or you can just dip them into the cold water :).


The price is 2 and something euros and you get 8 ml of nail polish. I won't talk about the quality, because I don't think Essence nail polishes stay on for a long time, but they are nice for the effects and nail art, because they are so cheap.
