Indulging Wine Shades - Collaboration with Tara from The Beauty of Nail Polish

Hey Beauties!

Today's collaboration is inspired by an upcoming Slovenian holiday, which is called Martinovo (on the 11th of November). In our country this is known as a wine celebration day. This is the day when grape juice turns into wine. At this day some may even prepare a feast which consists of goose as main dish. 

My family has weekend house and we have a grapevine there. My dad is the one in charge of it and every year we make a few liters of wine for our use. I personally don't drink wine, but I do help with picking the grapes.


In this spirit of trying to bring some of Slovenian culture to my non-Slovenian readers, I paired with Tara from The Beauty of Nail Polish and we prepared a post inspired by wine. I did red wine inspired makeup and she did wine inspired nails. I may not drink wine, but deep red shades are one of my favorites to use in makeup, especially in this season (autumn). 

Tara is a fellow Slovenian beauty blogger, which I didn't have a chance to meet in person yet. Her blog will make you fall in love with the latest nail polish shades and inspire you to improve your nail art. She also has a lot of product reviews, so don't let her blog name mislead you. I started my eye makeup by using light taupe shade in the crease. I darkened it up with darker taupe grey. I added dark dirty red on the lid as a base. 


Then I used shimmery cranberry red and applied it only in the center of the lid to create a bit of light and 3D effect. I used the same shade in the inner corner. Around the lower lash line I used the same light and darker taupe shades. I also added a bit of red. For my liner I tried to make a thicker line in the outer corner and not go all the way in the inner corner of the eye. 


I finished with black mascara.



I decided to go for dark red lips as well. Firstly I applied dark red lip liner and went over it with dark red burgundy lipstick to give me some shine. 


On my face I used foundation, concealer and powder as always. I used matte light bronzer as well as added some light matte contour shade. For highlighter I used shimmery champagne shade and on my cheeks I used red based peach shade.

Review: Essie Toggle to the top

Hey Beauties!

I got a coupon for 50% off of three Essie nail polishes (in DM). I'm sure a lot of my fellow Slovenian bloggers seized the opportunity as well. But, when I was in store, I only fell in love with one shade, which is from their new Winter 2013 collection.


The shade is called Toggle to the top and it looks like dark red wine shade with slightly lighter red glitter. It's very festive for the season and looks so pretty.




The red shade is perfect for autumn as well as winter time and the glitter in it, just makes it a bit more interesting and great for parties. One coat is enough to get the full color. The glitters in this polish are actually silver - because I already applied it and then took it off, so I saw it. Because the glitter is silver and it's in the dark red nail polish, that makes the glitter a bit lighter, because of the base - which is silver. I love how simple this sounds, although I would have never thought of such a trick :).

I like it with a top coat, because it smooths the glitters and makes it a bit more shiny.



Essie nail polishes contain 13.5 ml of product and cost 9.95 € in Slovenia, but I bought it for 4.98 €.

Review: Maybelline Colorama nail polish in 261

Hey Beauties!

I will be reviewing a typical fall shade, which is a very deep vampy red nail polish by Maybelline.


The shade is called 261. I know, just a number, how boring. The shade is a really nice deep deep almost black red wine. I guess it falls in the range of oxblood or red wine or vampy red shades. I love it. I also can't believe I didn't have a similar shade in my collection. Such a shame.



One coat of this nail polish is actually a very thin layer of dark red color. The second heavier coat turns the color as it looks like in the bottle, very dark almost black red. I would recommend at least two coats. The second coat needs to be heavier in order to get all the nail covered somewhat evenly.




The nail polish is pretty thin in texture, so a few more coats shouldn't be a problem. The bottle is glass with plastic top. The bottle holds 7 ml of nail polish and I think it costs around 2,50€, which is also very nice. As I have said many times, Maybelline nail polishes tend to last pretty long on my nails. Well at least, longer then most of the other drugstore and even some high end nail polishes.
