Review: Catrice Made To Stay Smoothing Lip Polish (040 Let's Red Loud!)

Hey Beauties!

Since seeing the new Catrice range, I had my wishlist on the phone. Unfortunately, I didn't get all the products, because some where already gone by the time I got to the stand. No worries, they're here to stay. I did want to try their new lip polishes. Of course I got red shade, again. I know, I need to step out of beiges and reds...

Catrice says that this lip polish is supposed to have the color of lipstick, longevity of a stain and shiny finish of a lipgloss.

A lot of promises. Well, starting with the obvious, packaging. Plastic, like any other lip gloss. The applicator is a sponge in the form of a petal. Reminds me of the L'Oreal lip glosses, I think they have the same applicator. It's nice because most of the product comes out in the bottom of the applicator and it is easy to spread it around the lips. The point at the end is also great for getting into little corners of lips.

It contains 6 ml of product and costs 5.19€. Now, am I crazy, or the prices are going up with Catrice products? I don't particularly like that, since I don't see a big difference in the quality, which would justify this.

On to the product itself. The shade is red with a certain pink undertone. It's not a typical red. I like the multi-dimensional shades. It's called 040 Let's Red Loud! and I immediately start singing J.Lo's song let's get loud :). The product applies nicely. Now I've put it on about three times and every time I feel a little sting. I don't like that and I don't know if it's just me. I admit my lips are a bit chapped and dry in this time of year, so I can't objectively define what is the cause of that stinging feeling. I don't like it. It looks extremely glossy. It's one of those things...glossy red lip gloss..kind of screams overdone for a day look in my opinion. Let's just say the lips look overly inviting sexy. But definitely nice for a night time look.

Thin coat
Thicker coat
I think that the color is not evenly transferred around the entire surface of the lips. If you have dry patches - it's done! Sticks on those and it's just not a pretty look. I expected it to be more pigmented, don't now why. It's a lot sheerer than I expected. If you apply thicker coat or more, you can intensify the color. It's pretty sticky and does stay on for a long time. I was also surprised that it stays glossy for as long as it stays on the lips. You will need to reapply this after a while and it definitely won't survive a meal or a kiss. The thing I also don't like is that it starts to bleed out of the lips along the lines - as seen in the photo below. But I guess that's to be expected in a way, since it is a lip gloss. It also leaves a pretty heavy stain on the lips, which looks even if you blot it down and you can wear it just as a stain. Not a fan of the smell. Out of the packaging smells very artificial on the lips kind of nothing special or intense.

Bleeding of the product
Stain that it leaves

To conclude: I like the color, it is glossy, it does leave a stain, but it's definitely not as long lasting as a lipstick. I hate the stinging feeling and think it's a bit overpriced.
