I have tried a few beauty tools and you either love them and use them regularly in your skincare routine or you forget about them. I have to admit most of my beauty tools stay in the drawer and come out a few times a year when I actually remember to use them. Except for LED Face Mask from CurrentBody. I have the Series 1 version and that is the only beauty tool that I actually use every week for at least three times a week, sometimes even more. I use it on my face as well as on my hands. I was glad to get a chance to try the new and improved Series 2 version of the LED mask.

Packaging

You get LED mask in a big box with everything you'll need to make it work and travel with. Apart from the actual mask you also get USB-C charging cable (charger not included), eye inserts (great for preventing the light to come into your eyes so you can read or scroll), controller (which now has a clip so that you can clip it on you to walk around easier), manual and storage bag (with the most plush soft fabric). 

Comparison with Series 1

They have definitely upgraded their LED Mask with this Series 2. The first mask had 132 LED bulbs, this one has 236. The first one has one strap, this one has multiway strap for better positioning on your head. This one also has better fit with its flexible silicon shape. The first one has 2 LED waves lengths and this one now has three wavelengths (red, near-infrared and deep near-infrared).

CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2*

I immediately noticed that the silicon that the mask is made of is much more flexible and softer in the new version. It also has rounded corner and a corner under the chin which makes it fit to the sides of the face so much better. There are several straps that ensure security while wearing the mask, so it doesn't slip and slide down your face like the older version would sometimes. The straps are also made of softer material, but wide enough so that they don't bother you. 

Controller with which you can turn on the mask and that has rechargeable battery in it is actually a lot bigger than in the previous version, but it's still fairly light and now has a clip on it which finally solves the problem of wearing it around the house. You can just clip the control behind your waistband or pocket or even a shirt and go about your tasks while you're masking. They did a good research and improved on all the things that were lacking with the previous version.

My only complain is that now the controller can't be detached from the mask, so while you're charging it, it sticks to the mask, so you have to put the mask as well as the control on the same place of charging. However that probably insures you don't loose the controller, maybe that was the thought behind it.

The battery life is good so far. It needs 6 hours to fully charge. I can get a good week and a half use out of one charging. I have noticed with the old version that the battery would get poor throughout the one year use.

Usage

You simply strap the mask on your face and hold the button on controller to turn it on. The bulbs start projecting red light and after 10 minutes it automatically shuts off. So you don't have to worry about anything and you can read with it or do any other tasks around the house.

Performance

Red light therapy is known for boosting the production of collagen which is naturally found in out body, but it increasingly declines after the age of 25. It's actually the structure of your cells. Red light therapy of this mask promises to reduce wrinkles by 30% and improve plumpness by 85% in 8 weeks.

Mask has lightbulbs all over the silicon mold which target your skin at three different wavelengths:

red 633nm - boosts collagen production, reduces fine lines and wrinkles

near-infrared 830nm - energizes cells to firm, tighten and brighten skin

deep near-infrared 1072nm - targets areas were signs of aging are more pronounced, boosting collagen production deep under the skin

It promises less lines and wrinkles and firmer, brighter and smoother skin in just 4 weeks. 

I have been using it for three weeks now, so I can't completely assess its effects compared to first version, but based off of the first mask that I still used up until I got this one, I can safely say that what I love the most about this mask is the fact that it just helps to make the skin look plumper, softer to the touch and more even toned. 

I have a lot of sallowness around my lip area and with prolonged use I have diminished that look quite a lot. It's great for whenever I have blemishes, because it calms down inflammation and helps the skin to heal faster. After using the first one for almost two years I have noticed that it helps to reduce those deeper lines and I am hoping that this new version with three wavelengths (newly added deep near-infrared light has been shown to penetrate up to 10 mm into the hypodermis) will be even better at this. You can't reverse aging, but you can definitely slow down the signs and keep them from getting worse.

CurrentBody has many different versions that you can apply on other body parts like neck and décolletage, helmet for hair growth, eye mask and lip mask. But I also like to use this mask on my hands - the palms and the back of my hands. I have eczema on my hands and whenever I have a another session of eczema breakouts I always use this mask to help it heal faster. It also helps with evening out the skin on the back of my hands, where my skin is very thin from medical topical treatments that have thinned my skin and make it now so much more susceptible to sun damage. The mask helps with evening out my skin and reducing those sun spots gradually.

Packaging

It also comes in a box as the mask and it has dark black glass packaging with a dropper. In it is 30 ml of product and it costs 49,99€.

Formula

It is designed to boost the benefits of LED treatments, so you can apply it after cleansing and before LED treatments. Formula contains green tea, vitamin C, quinoa peptides and triple hyaluronic acid. It's anti-aging antioxidant serum that should give you brighter, smoother and plumper skin with vegan formula and no fragrance. It does have natural scent which is a bit acidic in my opinion. 

Texture and performance

It's a very liquid serum like texture that is runny, but at the same time it has that slight moisturizing viscose feel under the fingers so it really clings to the skin well and immediately gives your skin that look of hydration with a bit of sheen. However it soaks into the skin fast and leaves behind a slight sticky feel. This is a good lightweight hydrating and antioxidant product that pairs well with their LED mask. It's not revolutionary, but it feels good on the skin and is light enough for most skin types.

Conclusion

If you are serious about anti-aging, have easily irritated skin, problem with blemishes and uneven skin tone and you haven't thought of using red light therapy yet, than I definitely recommend you to start.
